There are so many dictionaries out there on the net - all giving you the meaning of a word. Our idea is to use the BBC data to show people how the word they search is used in conversation or writing. You can even group this by years to see how the meaning of the word has changed over time - context and grammar. This will be a more useful service for people using dictionaries - e.g. I like the word, but how and where can I use it correctly. We built this prototype for BBC backstage.
This is prototype application we put together whilst playing with various AJAX libraries. The idea is pretty simple - allow multiple users to manage their personalised RSS news feed and provide the ability to bookmark any news item. All this without refreshing the entire page every time a request is sent to the server. The prototype works, or at least demostrates how AJAX can be used to build good web application.
People keep asking why its not finished, well we got bore - to finish it means building an entire admin back-office to manage - no fun in that unless someone is paying for it.
Libraries used included: Rico, Protoype.js; Crackajax; MagpieRSS
Technologies: PHP (we love) and MySQL (we love too)
